AC Council reinforces use of Kapampangan language

ANGELES CITY – The city council here, headed by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, has begun reinforcing the use of Kapampangan, sending out resolutions written in the Amanung Sisuan, or mother tongue.

This after Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr. wrote a letter addressed to Vega-Cabigting, asking the Sangguniang Panglunsod to help him in his initiative to enforce Ordinance No. 424 series of 2017, establishing Kapampangan as an official language of Angeles City and institutionalizing its use in all sectors, alongside existing national and official languages.

The said ordinance serves to promote the Kapampangan language throughout Angeles City and preserve and nurture its culture and heritage.

Last Monday, February 1, the city council released the 4 resolutions written in Kapampangan.

The local chief aims to preserve and nurture the city’s language fondly called “Amánung Sísuan,”by promoting the Kapampangan language throughout Angeles City, starting with the flow of communication within city government offices.

“We need to lead by example. If we want our kababayans to further use the Kapampangan language, we need to have our officials and employees in City Hall use it first in their daily exchange of communication,” Lazatin said.

Mayor Lazatin also asked help from media entities such as TV, radio, and print outlets, to raise awareness about the Amanung Sisuan, in order to make sure that the next generation of Kapampangans can carry the city’s culture and language.
