AC holds recycled Christmas decor, dance contest at city hall

ANGELES CITY – The city government here under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. will have an inter-department Christmas decoration contest among its offices using recyclable materials.

Apart from the recycle décor contest, there will also be an inter-department Christmas dance competition.

These are programs of Mayor Lazatin for the employees during the Yuletide season ever since he took office in 2019, boosting morale as well as promoting the continuous practice of “reduce, reuse, recycle” in the households of Angeleños.

The guidelines for the said contest were released through Memorandum Order No. 1273, Series of 2022.

“We want to share hope and unity this Christmas among our employees, as we always want them to be,” Lazatin said.

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel meanwhile explained that for the décor contest, 100% of the used materials in making the Christmas tree, decorations, and ornaments should be recycled.

“The tree should be 6 feet tall. Store-bought or new materials are strictly prohibited. Christmas lights and other electrical devices, paint and other coloring materials may be used to enhance the decors,” the guidelines said.

The whole set-up should be done by Nov. 3, 2022. The deadline of submission of entry forms will be set on Oct. 20, 2022, 4:30 PM at the Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office.

The office who will win first place will receive ₱60,000; 2nd place, ₱40,000; 3rd place, ₱25,000; and ₱10,000 as consolation prizes for non-winning offices.

The awarding will be on December 1, 2022 at the Office of the City Mayor. Only one entry per office, except for satellite offices such as Social Hygiene Office — City Health Office; Bahay Pag-Asa — City Social Welfare and Development Office; and Blood Bank — Mayor’s Office.

Moreover, ACEDIPO Head Irish Bonus-Llego said photo documentation for the whole set-up must also be posted online during the contest duration, with time and date stamp.

“The official Facebook pages of the City Information Office and ACEDIPO must be tagged for pre-judging and monitoring,” she said.

The schedule for the final assessment/judging for the inter-department Christmas Décor will be done through an actual site visit and interview on Nov. 17, 2022, with the following criteria — Creativity or Originality (40%); Use of Recycled Materials (40%); and Over-all Appearance (20%).

Bonus-Llego also mentioned that judges may conduct a final screening through table assessment and deliberation via the photo documentation uploaded online by each department or office and the photos during the actual site visit.

“A live broadcast of the table judging will be conducted through zoom or Facebook live for transparency purposes, whichever is feasible and accessible,” the set guidelines furthered.

All offices are being encouraged to join the dance contest with only one entry, maximum of 10 members.

The entry forms should be submitted until Oct. 20, 2022, 4:30 PM, at the Gender and Development Office.

This year’s theme for the said dance contest will be Filipino Christmas songs, a remix is allowed as long as both are Original Pilipino Music.

The audio video recording format saved in a CD or USB of the official entry should be submitted at GAD Office until Nov. 15, 2022, with labels and names of the participating groups with a maximum of a 5-minute performance per group. The video should be strictly raw.

Upon initial assessment and screening of the judges, there will be top 10 identified final entries, following certain criteria – choreography (35%); showmanship (30%); video quality (15%); harmony (10%); and costume (10%).

Schedule of final judging meanwhile will be on November 22, 2022.

The grand winner will receive ₱60,000; 2nd place, ₱40,000; 3rd place, ₱25,000; and ₱10,000 as consolation prizes for non-winning offices during the final round, while P5,000 for non-winners who did not qualify for the top 10 finals.
