Angeles City observes Fire Prevention Month

ANGELES CITY — The Bureau of Fire Prevention and the local government here is ready ​for the Fire ​P​revention Month with a series of activities that will inform, alert and warn the public about the importance of fire prevention.

With the theme: “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa ​S​unog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan”, this year’s observance reiterates ​the ​awareness on fire hazards and safety measures should start within households and establishments.

Data shows from the BFP-Angeles that, in 2016, cases of unattended burning and faulty electrical wiring are the leading causes of fire incidents in the city which primarily concerns the household.

The line-up of events kicked off last March 1 with a city-wide awareness motorcade participated by 20 barangay disaster and risk reduction teams while an on-the-spot poster-making and essay-writing contest was held on the 3rd day.

The ​3rd ​Angeles City Fire Station barangay fire brigade competition was held on March 4, where six fire-prone villages in the city participated.

Basic firefighting procedures, through “Bumbero sa Paaralan” is scheduled until March 9, to refresh the minds of the students about the do’s and don’ts during fire-related scenarios.

The BFP Angeles main station in Pulung Maragul will also have a 3-day open house visit for different schools and business establishments, on March 11, 14 and 15, to give basic knowledge and training in firefighting.

Lectures on fire prevention, inspection of establishments’ fire safety compliance, and fire disaster emergency planning are being done all year round in the city.

Proclamation no. 115-A declares the month of March as Fire Prevention Month. The annual observance aims to encourage the participation of the different sectors of the community in promoting and achieving a fire-safe and a fire-free nation.
