BoC, SBMA gov’t agencies to curb agricultural smuggling

Subic Bay Freeport – Bureau of Customs Port of Subic  District Collector Maritess T. Martin, Asst. Secretary Federico Laciste Co-chair of the Economic Intelligence Sub-Task Group on Food Security and representatives from SBMA Seaport Department held a meeting on October 06, 2021 aiming  to strengthen cooperation and information sharing among government agencies to curb agricultural smuggling.

The Port of Subic has been in constant coordination with the Economic Intelligence Sub-Task Group on Food Security since the 2nd quarter of this year in protecting our border against smuggling and other illicit trades.

The meeting purposely discussed the initial guidelines to be implemented under the proposed Inspection Hub to be established at the Port of Subic to further stop smuggling and other unlawful acts.

Coll. Martin stated, “Let this coordination meeting and the establishment of the Inspection Hub be the key and the ultimate model to other ports on how to eradicate all kinds of agricultural smuggling and importations.

This may not be the start of it all but let us make this the end of it all.” Martin said.

Also in the meeting are the representatives of its member-government agencies (DTI, DA, CIDG, and NICA) together with the Port’s Deputy Collector for Assessment, Coll. Maita S. Acevedo, Chief-CIIS FS IO3 Verne Y. Enciso, ESS-SP Captain Vincent Mark S. Malasmas. (Dante M. Salvaña)
