BSWI to plant 10K trees in Sapangbato Watershed

The Balibago Waterworks System Inc. (BWSI) will plant 10,000 assorted trees and fruit-bearing trees in a 10-hectare area of the Sapangbato Watershed in the next five years.

This, as the BSWI represented by BWSI President Cristina Isabelle Alejandro inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council Inc. (ARAW-ACI) for the regreening of the area under the program “Adopt-a-Watershed Reforestation Program.”

The ARAW-ACI seeks to reforest the 560-hectare Sapangbato Watershed in a bid to contain the environmental degradation and regreen the upland areas to protect the underground water table.

Tayag said more sectors are joining the efforts to reforest the Sapangbato Watershed, a project he started with the support of Angeles Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. back in 2019.

“Dumadami na po ang gusting tumulong sa Sapangbato Watershed,” according to Tayag referring to the Central Luzon Media Association (CLMA) which would also adopt a one-hectare area at the Sapangbato Watershed.

The CLMA area will be called “Teresito D. Sison Park,” named after the father of CLMA VP for Print Mark Sison. The late Sison is a known educator and freedom fighter during the Martial Law years and included in the list at “Bantayog ng mga Bayani.”

For his part, Mayor Lazatin thanked Tayag for spearheading the reforestation at the Sapangbato Watershed Area. “Dahil po sa inumpisahan ninyo, hindi na magkakaroon ng problema sa tubig ang mga anak natin.”

It can be recalled that Mayor Lazatin directed City Hall employees to plant 45,000 trees at the Sapangbato Watershed but the Angeles LGU had already planted some 59,000 assorted trees including fruit-bearing trees.
