Bulacan celebrates 441st anniversary

CITY OF MALOLOS – “Rain or Shine.” Not even the inclement weather can hinder the Bulakenyos to celebrate and commemorate the 441st Bulacan Founding Anniversary of the province on Friday morning (August 15) in front of the Provincial Capitol Building here.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando said that reminiscing history is recalling the purpose of the province, which has been home to millions of Bulakenyos in the past 441 years.

“Ito’y ating tahanan, nararapat lang na alam natin ang kasaysayan kung paano tayo nagkaroon nito, at tayo na rin ang magsasalin nito sa mga sumusunod pang henerasyon sa atin. Tungkulin natin na ito’y pangalagaan, nang sa gayon magkaroon pa ng lilingunin ang mga kabataan, isang nakaraang naging isa sa mga dahilan ng pagkakamit ng kalayaan ng bansa,” Fernando said.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy A. Cimatu will be represented by Usec. for Field Operations Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna as the guest of honor.

The program will start with a Holy Mass, followed by the flag raising ceremony and wreath laying activity before the statue of Marcelo H. del Pilar.

In addition, Dr. Jaime Veneracion, a Bulakenyo historian, will discuss the “Tatlong Panandang Araw sa Buwan ng Bulacan” that explains the important events in Bulacan and the reasons why Bulakenyos should celebrate them.

The date August 15 of every year is declared as Bulacan Foundation Day in The New Provincial Administrative Code of Bulacan and a special non-working holiday as stated in Section 27 of The Provincial Legal Holidays.

The Provincial Government of Bulacan readies the venues, wherein if the rain pours, attendees will then transfer to the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
