CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — The Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando continues to reap what they saw in the field of public service and good governance.
After baging the Seal of Good Local Governance last month, The National Nutrition Council awarded the province of Bulacan its First Year CROWN (Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition) Maintenance Award for the year 2016 during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City yesterday.
The award was given to the province for successfully maintaining the CROWN Award through the efficient and effective implementation and management of its Provincial Nutrition Program which resulted to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the province of Bulacan especially among its young children.
Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado personally received the Certificate of Recognition and cash incentive amounting to P100,000.
“Hindi mapapantayan ng anumang yaman ang magandang kalusugan, kaya patuloy tayong nag-iisip ng mga paraan at programa para masuportahan ang mga ito. Sapagkat biyaya ito ng Panginoon, kung malusog tayo, mas marami tayong magagawa para sa lalawigan at sa ikabubuti ng mas marami pa,” Alvarado said.
For his p[ar, Fernando said such recognitions will inspire them to give their best in serving the province and Bulakenyos.
Meanwhile, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rowena Joson Tiongsone shared that the province has an intense advocacy on breastfeeding especially during the first 100 days.
“Mayroon tayong mga breastfeeding station, information forums, support groups sa mga barangay, at karamihan sa mga volunteer workers ay trained sa infant and young child feeding. Nakikipagpartner din tayo sa ibang mga organisasyon gaya ng Breastfeeding Bulakenyas,” Tiongson said.
She added that the province is propagating malunggay to encourage the public to plant not only for meal purposes but because it is good for lactating moms.
“Nagsasagawa din tayo ng mga feeding programs, ginagawa natin ito para makaiwas sa malnutrisyon hindi para gamutin ito dahil sa matagal na panahon mababa na talaga ang kaso ng malnutrisyon sa lalawigan,” Tiongson said.
According to PSWDO, among the 310,059 of the 0-71 months old weighed in 2016, 303,217 children or 97.79 percent have normal weight while a total of 4,749 or 1.53 percent underweight and severely underweight children were recorded as compared to 1.56 percent in 2015.
Prior to this, the province received the Most Outstanding Green Banner Award in 2013-2014 and CROWN Award in 2015. –EMIL G. GAMOS
