CHED celebrates 27th founding anniversary

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) celebrates this week its 27th Founding Anniversary with a series of activities in Central Luzon.

Anchored on the theme “PADYAK! Moving Forward, Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education. Pamantasan: Pandayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran”, it opened Monday with a thanksgiving mass and Region III “PADYAK sa Instructions” which showcased the best practices and initiatives in mitigating the effects of COVID-19 pandemic aligned with the Central Luzon Regional Higher Education Action Plan (CLRHEAP) under the thematic area for Instructions.

CHED OIC-Regional Director Dr. Maria Teresita Semana said Gawad PADYAK Parangal was held Tuesday to recognize higher education institutions, professional organizations and government agencies who are models of institutional continuity, agility, resiliency and collaboration as they continue to serve their stakeholders amidst the pandemic.

“We honored those who have been instrumental in the unhampered delivery and implementation of CHED’s programs and activities in this time of the pandemic,” she furthered.

CHED likewise featured Tuesday success stories of Tertiary Education Subsidy student-grantees through the #PADYAK Kabataan TEStimonials event.

On Wednesday, the agency will put spotlight on researches showcasing best practices and initiatives in mitigating effects of COVID-19 aligned with the CLRHEAP under the thematic area for Research.

“Another set of COVID-19 response initiatives will be highlighted during the Region III Padyak sa Internationalization and Padyak sa Extension and Productivity events Thursday featuring program alignments with the Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Roadmap and CLRHEAP thematic area for Research,” the official furthered.

The weeklong celebration culminates with Friday’s PADYAK Parade where about 10 CHED employees will spend a few minutes cycling along the routes inside the regional government center in the City of San Fernando.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act No. 11522 which declares May 18 every year as National Higher Education Day in commemoration of the founding anniversary of CHED.

It encourages government agencies and instrumentalities, local government units, public and private educational institutions, and industry associations to engage and participate towards the meaningful celebration of the special working day.
