Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago announced on Monday that the City Government of San Fernando is all set for this year’s Alay Lakad with the theme “Abe-Abe Takbang Para Kareng Kayanakan Pakamalan.”
The annual walk for a cause will be held on November 24 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center. Aside from this, there will also be an essay writing contest and Mr. and Ms. Alay Lakad competition on the same day.
“We are conducting this fund-raising activity yearly to help the out of school youth in our city gain the necessary education by providing them financial assistance in order for them to uplift their economic status. Naniniwala kami na hindi hadlang ang kahirapan upang maabot ang mga pangarap,” Mayor EdSa added during a press conference.
Alay Lakad Foundation Inc., President Engr. Ruben Sy said they are aiming to raise 1 million funds this year to cater the needs of the current 91 scholars from different universities and colleges in the province.
“120,000 pesos po ang inilalaan natin sa bawat scholar para makapagtapos siya ng apat na taon sa kolehiyo. Kaya naman hinihikayat namin kayo na tumulong upang mas maraming kabataan pa ang ating mapagtapos,” he added.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office will also be distributing 200 pieces of coin banks to public and private offices and companies to increase the scholarship funds.
Also present during the activity were City Councilor BJ Lagman, Alay Lakad 2017 Executive Committee chaired by Enrique David and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Iris Biliwang.
