Davids of Porac keep family tradition in public service

Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon and her brother, Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David, are keeping their late father’s
tradition in public service.

The siblings led the gift-giving and feeding programs at the SAUP Project in Barangay Cangatba, here. The project is done yearly on September 8 during the birthday of former three-term Porac Mayor Roy David.

David, and later on his sister, kept and nurtured their tradition after the former mayor died on August 8, 2002.

The Davids thanked Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda and her son, Vice Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda, for helping them “make the celebration more meaningful” by giving the food and gifts for the people at SAUP.

“We do it to honor my father and mother. Our parents’ dedication to public service is immense,” said David-Dizon, who is also councilor of Porac.

The siblings’ mother is the late former Pampanga Acting Governor and Board Member Edna De Ausen David, whom David-Dizon replaced as board member in 2011 after she passed away earlier that year.

The elder David was a former town councilor and then was appointed mayor in 1986 shortly after EDSA People’s Power Revolution.

Residents of SAUP expressed gratitude to the David family for giving a “lasting gift.”
Mayor David and his wife gave the 1.5 hectares of land in Cangatba to the residents in SAUP. There are now some 250 families living in SAUP, located in front of the family’s estate in Cangatba.

“The Davids did not only give it. They legally turned it over to us,” said the residents.
“Their kindness and commitment to public service are overwhelming. They inherited the generous ways of their late parents,” they added.

Vice Mayor David said: “It was the mission of my father to spread his blessings by giving lands to people.” David said. They and their three other brothers – Tristan, Arpie and Glenn Roy – are “one in keeping the family’s tradition in public service, notably for Porac residents.”

His family had donated several hectares of lands to poor and homeless residents not just in Porac but at nearby Sta, Rita town and in Bataan province.

Fr. Roland Moraleja, parish priest of St. Catherine, celebrated the holy mass at the chapel in SAUP before the gift-giving and feeding program started.

Moraleja said the property where the public high school in Barangay San Basilio, Sta. Rita town is standing on was donated by the Davids. The former mayor is a native of San Basilio.

Moraleja said there are four SAUP Projects in Porac. The lands on the four projects are owned by the Davids.

David and David-Dizon formally turned over lands to SAUP residents before the May 2016 elections.
