CITY OF SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, Bulacan — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has established the Forest River Park in Towerville, Barangay Minuyan Proper, converting a portion of the Chalo River easement into a public green space that helps protect the waterway from encroachment, preserves existing trees, and provides a venue for recreation and environmental learning.
The project was implemented under the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program and was recently turned over to the City Government of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
“The Forest River Park serves as an example of how development and environmental preservation may coexist. In addition to improving the environment, we are fostering greater environmental awareness and stewardship among communities by protecting existing trees and transforming river easements into sustainable public spaces,” DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo stated.
Meanwhile, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Rolly Mulato credited the project’s completion to the cooperation of government agencies, local officials, and community stakeholders.
“This project is more than just the opening of a park. It is evidence of what can be accomplished when people work together with a common goal of protecting the environment. The Forest River Park reflects our shared commitment to safeguarding natural resources while creating spaces that will benefit both present and future generations,” Mulato said.
The park includes a riverside view deck overlooking the Chalo River, shaded seating areas integrated within existing trees, recreational amenities, and landscaped open spaces for public use and environmental appreciation.
Following the turnover, the city government committed to maintaining the facility to ensure its long-term sustainability.
DENR also distributed tree seedlings during the ceremony as part of continuing urban greening efforts in the city.
The Forest River Park is one of 27 linear parks in Central Luzon established by DENR under the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.
The project aligns with the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in advancing environmental protection, sustainable urban development, and community participation in conservation efforts. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Bulacan)
