The Department of Education (DepEd) said more teachers are needed in Math and Science subjects.
This amid the high number of teachers hired for the K to 12 system of education which reached 195,302 between 2010 and 2016.
“Kailangan pa ng DepEd ng mas maraming guro sa Math at Science. Hindi kami nagtatanggal, kami ay tumatanggap,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones told lawmakers during the hearing for the 2017 budget.
The fears that more teachers will lose their jobs because of the implementation of the K to 12 educational system did not happen, according to Briones.
Of the 36,461 teaching items opened for the senior high school (SHS) program, at least 3,950 teachers from colleges and universities were given teaching positions. “Sa katunayan, ang 928 sa kanila ay nakapasok sa pamamagitan ng “Green Lane” para sa mas mabilis na pagproseso ng kanilang aplikasyon,” said Briones.
