DOST, PSAU to test ‘household Biogas Digester’ in CSF

Three (3) units of portable household Biogas Digester will be used by the City Government of San Fernando, as the Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) partnered with Department of Science and Technology Region 3 (DOST-R3) to install and conduct Sub-Project of pilot testing of the said facilities in the city.

After the Monday’s flag raising ceremony, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago together with PSAU President Honario Soriano Jr., Dr. Norman De Jesus, Director of Organic Farm in PSAU respectively, and DOST Pampanga Provincial Director Michelle Quiambao signed a Memorandum of Agreement.

In an interview, PSAU President Soriano discussed the function of the household Biogas Digester which was developed by DOST and fabricated by PSAU that converts biodegradable wastes in to gas that can be used in a single-burner gas stove.

“Layunin din nito na mabawasan yung ating dependents sa conventional energy, yung liquefied petroleum gas and ma-embrace yung problema natin sa ecological solid waste management and climate change. Sa pamamagitan nito, pwede na itong gamitin pangluto o sa kung ano man bagay na nangangailangan ng energy, kaya malaking bagay din ito,” he said.

The DOST, being a member of the City Solid Waste Management Board, selected CSF as their recipient to conduct the pilot testing in the City Composting Center and to help in reducing organic wastes.

For her part, CENR Officer Regina Rodriguez stated that the initiative of the Local Government is to find innovative ways and technology in achieving their environmental campaigns.

“Nais ng Syudad na mabawasan talaga ang basura, kaya naghahanap tayo ng mga pamamaraan upang ma divert ang ating nalilikhang basura. By this pilot testing ng household biogas digester ay makikita natin dito kung ang portable biogas digest ay akma sa pangangailangan ng Syudad,” Rodriguez said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Santiago expressed his gratitude to the PSAU and DOST R-3 for choosing the City of San Fernando to conduct the said project. He believes that, this will be truly helpful to the city in achieving total zero waste.

“Malaking tulong ito para sa Syudad upang mas mapanatili pa ang kalinisan. Kung kaya’t hindi tayo magsasawang gumawa at mag-isip ng mga estratehiya para sa kaayusan ng San Fernando,” he said.

The project duration of the household Biogas Digester is one (1) year.
