Duterte legacy programs to shape a healthy Philippines—PIA chief

Shaping a healthy Philippines is one of the targets of Duterte legacy programs.

In his message during the 8th leg of the Kasama sa Pamana: Regional Pre-SONA Series which was held in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, Philippine Information Agency Director General Ramon Cualoping III cited government initiatives to address the COVID-19 pandemic, hunger and malnutrition, and other health concerns of Filipinos.

In the fight against COVID-19, he bared that about 655,000 doses of vaccines were already administered in Central Luzon.

“The vaccines are now here and we will make sure that they continue to arrive so that everyone, or at least 70 percent of our population may be inoculated as soon as possible so we can reach herd immunity,” he said.

Cualoping likewise mentioned the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom program that addresses involuntary hunger and malnutrition in the country. It eyes 1 million fewer hungry Filipinos by 2022.

In terms of healthcare services, Cualoping highlighted the Malasakit Centers all over the country which give financial and medical assistance.

“These [Malasakit Centers] ensure the provision of adequate health services to all Filipinos especially to the less fortunate ones,” he added. (CLJD/TJBM-PIA 3)
