Fatal Spanish cards game

FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga – A 40-year old woman was shot dead while playing Spanish cards game with her neighbours at Barangay Paguiruan here Sunday.

Supt. Cris Tiguelo, Floridablanca police chief, identified the victim as Carmela Turla, a resident of said place. He said the suspect – Eduard Salac, 50, a native of Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija – fled shortly after the incident.

Tiguelo said the victim was shot to the head at point blank range killing her on the spot past 1 p.m.

The suspect apparently turned his ire with the victim after he saw his wife Imelda playing with Spanish cards game, also known as ‘Kuwaho’ in the local dialect.

When confronted, Salac’s wife said the money came from Turla. She was forced to join the group on condition that they will lend her cash.

Witnesses told investigators they noticed the suspect clutching a handgun and went straight to the victim where confrontation ensued on the process followed by a lone gunshot.

Other players were Soledad Salac and Domingo Mallari who scampered to different direction with other house occupants for safety.

Tiguelo said his men are eyeing unpaid debt and old grudge as possible motives in Turla’s gunslay. He said investigators are digging deeper on the incident.

A spent shell for calibre .45 pistol was found at the crime scene.

Tiguelo said murder case will be filed against the suspect who remained at large.
