Construction of ‘Quarry Road’ along Mega Dike eyed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Central Luzon officials is looking into the construction of a “Quarry Road” that will be used mainly by heavy trucks in a form of an overlay bridge along Mega Dike.

This was discussed during a meeting led by the Regional Development Council (RDC) together with National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Severino Santos, vice-chairman, Pampanga Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and former President and 2nd District Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the NEDA Regional Office 3.

The RDC said the national government has an annual allotment of P20 million for maintenance of Sta Cruz Manibaug, Porac-Angeles City road. If pushed through, the officials recommend the said fund will be utilized for the construction of the quarry road as a starting fund.

The officials also divulged they will encouraged the group of Ramon Ang to invest in the construction of the quarry road in the form of public-private partnership.

Pineda said construction of “Quarry Road” as an alternative road will prevent the yearly road maintenance spending of the provincial government amounting to P100 million a year.

She also stressed that 5,000 heavy vehicles pass local roadways and are the main causes of accident, noise, traffic and damages to roads and properties.

With the construction of a separate road intended for trucks and heavy vehicles, it will allow safer residential area for closely situated barangays, decreases deterioration of roadways and improves sense of community in the province, the governor added.

The construction of the Quarry Road will tentatively start in 2018 upon the approval of the RDC and the part of the general appropriations act by the Congress. — Ma. Reina Len Luna
