Fernandinos urged to donate blood

In line with the city’s agenda “Malusog na Fernandino, Masiglang Pamumuhay ay sigurado,”the City Government of San Fernando conducted its third blood-letting project dubbed “DugoKo, Karugtong ng Buhay Mo” on September 15.

Organized by the City Health Office in partnership with Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital, the activity was participated in by LGU employees and uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection.

Blood Nurse Coordinator Cynthia Marie Fabian said the city targets to collect blood bags equivalent to the 1% of the city’s population every year.

“Mahigit 3,000 po ang kailangan nating makolekta para mapunan yung pangangailangan natin sa dugo dito sa buong syudad pero hindi po natin naabot ito dahil konti lang yung mga nagdodonate,” she added.

In an interview, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago urged all physically qualified Fernandinos to donate blood and make it a regular habit as this is beneficial not only to the recipient but also to the donor.

These benefits include good health, reduced risks of cancer and heart attack, lowers iron levels and replenishes blood.

“Let us heed the call and support those in need of it because one blood donation can actually help save lives of up to three patients,” Santiago added.
