FREEDOM MARCH KICKS OFF TODAY, TO END SUNDAY AT CAPAS SHRINE

MARIVELES, Bataan — The Freedom March kicked off Friday at Kilometer 0 in Mariveles, with participants beginning a multi-day trek retracing the historic route of the 1942 Bataan Death March.

The march will conclude on Sunday at the Capas National Shrine in Capas, Tarlac, where closing rites will honor the thousands of Filipino and American soldiers who perished during World War II.

Now on its third year, the activity is organized by the Veterans Bank of the Philippines as part of efforts to preserve historical memory and promote patriotism. Students, soldiers, veterans’ families, and civic groups joined the opening rites in Mariveles before setting out on the commemorative walk.

Authorities deployed security and medical teams along the route as participants endure long distances and rising temperatures in a tribute to sacrifice and resilience
