Gov. Pineda administers oath-taking of municipal, city coops officers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda sworn into office the newly-elected officers of the Cooperative Development Councils (CDCs) from the 21 cities and municipalities of Pampanga.

The oath-taking rites held at the Capitol Grounds yesterday is in line with the kick-off celebration of the Cooperative Month with the theme “Cooperatives: Empowering the Poor and the Vulnerable Towards Inclusive Growth and Development.”

During the event, Provincial Director Marieta Hwang of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Pampanga Extension Office said that cooperatives in Pampanga are doing a great job for the organization has already garnered a net worth of P3.3 billion in assets.

In her speech, Gov. Pineda congratulated the CDCs for their achievements in their localities and advised them to continue their support with the growing cooperatives in the province.

Board Member and Committee on Cooperatives Chairman Anthony Joseph Torres, for his part, said the provincial government will support and assist CDCs to further strengthen and develop cooperatives in the province.

According to Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO) head Luningning Vergara there are 243 active cooperatives in Pampanga as of present time.

Vergara added that the PCEDO is set to conduct a Cooperative Summit that will be held in Royce Hotel on Oct 30-31 as part of the cooperative month celebration.

Also present during the event were board members Cherry Manalo, Benny Jocson, Salvador Dimson Jr, Gerome Tubig, Nelson Calara and Pol Balingit. –Aida B. Bungue/PIO
