Gun ban nets 4 in CL; 2 killed in shootout

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Four persons were arrested by police authorities for alleged violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban while two suspected outlaws were killed in a brief firefight with lawmen in separate places across Central Luzon Sunday.

Five different types of firearms mostly handguns were seized from the suspects’ possession, said Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, Central Luzon PNP director.

One of the suspects was identified as Christopher de la Torre, of Angat, Bulacan; the three others were not mentioned in the police report.

The suspects were intercepted by lawmen manning COMELEC checkpoints in different areas in the region following the implementation of gun ban.

Coronel said policemen were rapidly spread throughout major routes to man 151 Comelec checkpoints in seven provinces and two cities in region 3 as part of the security preparations in the upcoming mid-term elections on May.

The slain suspects, Coronel said are motorcycle-riding-criminals who traded shots with the police in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.

The suspects are detained in different police stations detention cells as violation of the Omnibus Election Code is being readied against them.
