The Municipality of Bustos celebrated “Minasa Festival” 2019 with former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday at the Bulacan Military Area Shrine in the municipality of Bustos.
Bustos Mayor Arnel Mendoza led the Minasa Festival Opening Ceremony with Go and former Bucor chief Dela Rosa and other Bulacan officials led by Vice Governor Daniel Fernando, City of San Jose Del Monte lone district Congresswoman Rida Robes and members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Mayor Mendoza said the various competitions highlighted the celebration such as “Minasayaw”, a zumba showdown; Minasa Sportsfest; Minasangkap, Minasarap Cook Fest, Minasa Musikahan para kina Lolo at Lola; Minasa Tanod Drill and Rescue Competition, Minasa All-Star Basketball Comepetition “Bola Kontra Droga”; Minasa Street Dance and Showdown Contest and Minasaya Youth Summit; and Tugtog Sayaw Alay kay Santo Nino de Bustos.
In his speech, Go announced to 14 barangay captains and sangguniang barangay officials that he had already asked President Rodrigo Roa Duterte extend for another two years the term of present barangay officials or until 2022. Go said the President approved his proposal.
Go immediately proceeded to Barangay Paliwas in Obando, Bulacan where he visited and gave financial assistance to the families and owners of 100 houses razed by fire on Sunday night.
Zeny De Lara, is one of the pioneer Minasa producers and founder since 1958 when she started to manufacture it at the age of 20.
She said the festival was named “Minasa” from their famous milk biscuits/ cookie, one of the towns popular and delicious delicacies. Other famous biscuits were the mouth-watering “Barquillos” and “Lengua De Gato” which are served and purchased in every store in this town, De Lara said.
Mendoza invited everyone to join the annual Minasa Festival starting January 12-20.
The people in the locality showcase their culture and tradition through this annual event. (
