Guv to LGUs: Monitor dengue cases

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Governor Lilia “Nanay Pineda urged local chief executives and village chiefs to closely monitor dengue cases in cities and municipalities.

This was gleaned during the Provincial Dengue Summit held at Kingsborough International Convention Center here.

Pineda said the Provincial Government is strengthening its programs against dengue and the Barangay Health Workers and Nanay Community Workers are working hand in hand to report dengue cases in the villages.

“The Provincial Government is always open to help the Kapampangans especially those with health issues. Let us also be mindful not only with dengue cases but also tuberculosis, leptospirosis, pneumonia, kidney failure, rabies and stroke,” she added.

The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) is now on alert status after it received reports that a total of 4,312 cases were tallied by different Disease Reporting Units in the province as of September 29 this year.

This is 2% higher compared to the same time period last year where 4,215 cases were reported.

PESU head Jolly Garcia said that most of the reported cases were admitted to 11 district and provincial hospitals.

“About 95% of the said cases from January up to September 29 this year were admitted to our public and private hospitals,” he said.

He then said that some of these cases were imported, or acquired from places outside Pampanga. (PHILIP OCAMPO • Photos by Jun Jaso)
