BALANGA CITY– In the municipality of Hermosa, there is a youth group that tries to prove that there is more than playing ML (Mobile Legends), basketball or going out for fun doing some risk-taking adventures of the young ones.
They are called “TeenheartsClub2.0” – a group composed of active young people, headed by Aldrin T. Breis, who love and help their community protect the environment by helping the village get rid of everyday trash and by going out to the mountains not just for hiking, but for planting trees for the next generation.
“Grupo po siya ng kabataan na nagkakaisa para maglingkod sa aming barangay mayroong mga activities na makakatulong para maging active yung mga kabataan,” says Marlon Ormillo Bagallon, the youth sector or Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman of Barangay Bamban, Hermosa.
Recently, through the help of the students and teachers from Bamban Elementary School who donated the seedlings of fruit-bearing trees like Mango, Guava, and Rambutan, and the SK and Barangay Council of Bamban, they have planted more than 200 seedlings in support for the Provincial Government of Bataan’s “1 Million Trees for 1Bataan or the 1M41B Challenge”, an environmental program of Bataan Provincial Governor Abet Garcia.
“Ito po ay sa suporta rin ng aming Punong Barangay at mga Kagawad at sina Dominador Dayrit our TeenheartsClub Adviser at Medardo D. Miranda our Punong Barangay. Maraming maraming salamat po sa mga kabarangay namin na tumatangkilik sa aming aktibidad. Bata man kami kung tawagin, maganda naman ang aming mithiin,” Bogallon added.
Their tree-planting project coincided with the celebration of the International Youth Day and the Linggo ng Kabataan with a theme: “Transforming Education” that highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.
Meanwhile, in Bagac town, Municipal Administrator Nick Ancheta reported that recently, more than 600 persons from different agencies and sectors planted more than 4,000 seedlings of Narra and Kasoy along the newly-opened San Antonio-Saysain Road.
Also, the Bataan Police Provincial Office headed by Police Col. Villamor Tuliao, spearheaded the tree planting activity in Barangay Mabayo, Morong, Bataan where they were joined by multi-sectoral groups including LGU Morong, Bahay Pagbabago Dinalupihan, Orani Bataan Runners, BPATS and the Bataan Federation of Sangguniang Kabataan headed by their President Precious Manuel.
