CALBAYOG CITY — Eight persons were hauled to a police detention facility after they were caught playing illegal card games at a gambling den in Barangay Matobato here Sunday.
Supt. Joie Pacito Yape, chief of the Calbayog City Police, identified the suspects as Sheryl Meniable, 56; Vilma Alvarez, 48; Jovi Ann Alvarez and Gina Alvarez all residents of said place.
Others were Danilo Albero; 49, Rolando Lozada, 48; and Edwina Lantao, 37, also of this community.
Policemen led by Inspector Nena Cruda raided the illegal gambling den after residents in the community lodged a complaint against the maintainer of the gambling joint situated at Purok 6, Bgy. Matobato here.
“Our office has been rained by complaints from residents there because of the presence of illegal gambling joint that prompted us to conduct raid,” said Yape over the phone.
Yape warned that similar actions will be made in the future days as part of our sincere campaign to eradicating illegal gambling operations in this city.
Seized during the raid includes playing cards and cash in different denomination.
The suspects were brought to police headquarters as violation of the anti-illegal gambling law is being readied against them.
