Inton leads ‘Hataw Bataan, Takbo Hermosa 2019’

HERMOSA, Bataan – Hermosa Municipal Mayor Jopet Inton on Saturday morningled the Hataw Bataan, Takbo Hermosa fun run from Hermosa Plaza to Barangay Mandama Covered Court and vice versa.

The event was among the various conceived programs under the Office of Congressman Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III of the 2nd District of Bataan that is aimed to strengthen the province’s Tobacco-Free Generation (TFG) campaign.

Runners who joined are mostly students, local officials and TFG Advocates who  participated in the challenge of finishing a 3-Km or 5-Km run.

This advocacy run is aimed to institutionalize learning and healthy and family-oriented lifestyle throughout the municipality as well as to educate and to encourage youths in schools and in the community to be part of Tobacco-Free Generation.

Mayor Inton said this program aims to encourage the citizens of Hermosa to live an active life for a healthier body.

Congressman Garcia said this is a part of the Provincial Fun Run Program wherein 12 fun runs per year (1 fun run per month per town) will be held this year.

The event was well-attended by other local and provincial officials like Board Member Jose Villapando, Bagac Councilor Popoy Del Rosario, Orani Vice Mayor Bong Galicia, Atty. Jomar Gaza, Sangguniang Bayan of Hermosa members, village chiefs together with Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, Department of Education, Philippine National Police, Barangay officials and council, Barangay Technical Advisers, Hermosa Marshals, etc.

Last August 2018, Mayor Inton led the launching here of the Tobacco-Free Generation (TFG) movement, during which, young Bataan residents born from year 2000 onwards pledged to do away with smoking and other tobacco-related activities.

During that time, Mayor Inton and Dr. Koong Heng Nung, a Singaporean who founded TFG, led the signing of the commitment wall and swearing-in of the youth where they joined some students from Singapore and various towns of Bataan in Zumba dancing.

Mayor Inton said they started the no-smoking campaign in Hermosa in 2016 and after one year, the LGU-Hermosa was able to get the Red Orchid award from the Department of Health.

TFG, which was founded by Koong in 2015 in Singapore, is a social movement – which works on preventing young people from smoking.

Koong in a media interview last year noted that the Philippines, through Bataan, was the first country to join the TFG movement.

The City of Balanga led by then City Mayor Joet Garcia was the first to implement the no-smoking campaign, followed by the towns of Dinalupihan, Samal, Orani, and Samal, among some other municipalities.

Under the said program, those who were born in the year 2000 pledged not to smoke, sell or attempt to use tobacco. On the other hand, those who were born before year 2000 are expected to support the new generation.
