Iranian man gets 10 years for ‘marijuana cake’

DUBAI — Not so clever. A 23-year old Iranian man faces a 10-year imprisonment after airport security authorities at the Dubai International Airport found him carrying pieces of cakes containing 314.2 grams of marijuana.

Aside from the marijuana, anti-narcotics authorities have also found cannabis seeds inside the cakes. The young Iranian landed at the Dubai International Airport with a visit visa last March 31.

The Iranian man pleaded not guilty to the charges of illegal drug possession. He claimed the cakes were gifts to his friends.

The Court of First Instance in Dubai convicted the Iranian man and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh50,000. He will be deported after serving his 10-year jail term.
