Lapid seeks lifetime passports for seniors

Senator Manuel ‘Lito’ Lapid wants a lifetime validity of passports for Senior Citizens, to prevent them from queueing during passport application and renewal.

According to Sen. Lapid, this move is to lessen the burden of individuals ages 60 and above during the renewal of their passports.

In the explanatory note of his Senate Bill No. 1197 which he filed earlier, the proposed measure aims to further ease and give comfort to the lives of senior citizens.

The bill, if enacted into law, will grant lifetime validity for Philippines passports issued or renewed in their favor from the age of sixty years (60) and above.

“Through this,” he added, “the seniors will be spared from the rigorous process and long lines often associated with passport application and renewal.”

He said senior citizens who live far away from city centers where Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Offices are located will benefit from this bill.
