Lazatin promotes digital education

ANGELES CITY – Free WiFi with high quality internet connection will soon be provided in public schools here, as Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. wants to promote digital education.

“Public school students will now be connected to the world and digital education will further enhance their knowledge as they seek higher learning.

The internet is now an indispensable utility that should be accessed by Angeleños,” he said. It can be recalled that last Aug. 8, the Mayor met with Converge ICT Solutions Inc. and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) personnel to further discuss this concept.

Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge ICT Pres. and CEO, had agreed with the Mayor to provide Internet connection for free.

According to Uy, who is also from Angeles City, this is a way of giving back to the community where they started. Meanwhile, the mayor cited four key points in improving the Information Communication and Technology Division (ICTD) in the City.

First, the mayor said, is timekeeping. “The City Government will install 14 units of face recognition machine for our timekeeping system,” he said.

Second, he stressed, is the connectivity of all off-site offices to the City Hall for the face recognition system and telephone lines.

“Third is Collection Efficiency, by installing a server for the Treasurer’s Office – Land Tax Division,” he said.

And lastly, he added, is the purchase of 100 computer units to upgrade all non-serviceable units in all local government offices.

This also includes the purchase of non-consummable items to repair computer units.
