Lubao mayor lauds Capitol, LGUs for governance award

LUBAO, Pampanga — Pampanga Mayors League (PML) president and Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab on Wednesday lauded the provincial government and several towns and cities for earning accolades from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Pineda-Cayabyab, in an interview, said she felt proud when Pampanga was named as among the provinces in the country with the most number of LGUs to receive this year’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the DILG.

The awardees include Pampanga provincial government, the cities of Angeles, San Fernando and Mabalacat; and the towns of Apalit, Floridablanca, Guagua, Lubao, Magalang, Mexico, Minalin, San Luis, San Simon and Sta. Rita.

The local government units were awarded an incentive fund called “Performance Challenge Fund” during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Local Government Code (LGC) on October 27 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

Pineda-Cayabyab, who was recently elected president of the PML, said she is driven to work harder for the league whose members are also active in implementing quality services to their respective constituents.

Pineda-Cayabyab also cited the efforts of her mother, Gov. Lilia Pineda, in making Pampanga among the top performing provinces in the country.

“The governor and the LGUs enjoy mutual support that’s why we succeed in many undertakings. We hope to pursue this close coordination among local officials to make sure that the whole province continues to move upward,” the PML president said.

Pampanga, Pineda-Cayabyab noted, has been named by the Commission on Audit (COA) as the 10th richest provinces in the country.

The ranking was derived by computing total LGU assets less total liabilities.

In the installation of PML officers in which majority of Pampanga mayors were present, Gov. Pineda challenged the local chief executives to practice accountability in handling government resources.
