City of Malolos officials led by Mayor Christian D. Natividad have voluntarily undergone drug tests on Thursday at the Ameer Drug Testing Center in Barangay Catmon.
Supt. Heryl Bruno, city police chief, City Administrator Atty. Zaldy Mendoza together with some barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates from several barangays of Malolos also took the drug tests on the first day where Senior Supt. Chito Bersaluna assumed his new assignment as the provincial police director of Bulacan.
Bersaluna, who was the former city police chief of Caloocan, took over the Bulacan police post vacated by Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. who was transferred to PNP Intelligence Group in Camp Crame.
Both police officials have hugged news headlines for their anti-illegal drug operations.
The activity aims to pursue transparency and accountability on city officials and those seeking barangay elective posts in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
Natividad said that he believed that the war being waged by the government against the menace of illegal drugs would succeed if barangay officials set the examples against the drug campaign.
Recently a list of barangay officials and candidates running for the barangay elective positions involved in illegal drugs was released by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency that made Malolos officials to encourage candidates in the coming barangay and SK elections to undergo drug tests to set as an example of being responsible officials to their constituents. –ELOISA SILVERIO
