NICA beefs up drive vs CTG youth recruitment

National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) beefs up its advocacy against recruitment of students and youth by communist-terrorist groups (CTGs).

NICA Regional Director Maria Luisa De Guzman said they are working closely with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Education to provide information to the youth, especially in schools which are identified as target for recruitment.

The director said that CHED has instructed higher education institutions to establish their own Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorismo.

“For the younger ones or those under DepEd, aside from constantly engaging with schools to allow us to talk with their students, we’re planning to conduct orientations for the parents so that they can watch over their children, not only in school, but also in their homes. If the parents can monitor what their children are doing, who their friends are, what their activities are inside and outside of the school, that would be a big help,” De Guzman said.

With this, the official also called on parents to maintain an open line of communication with their children.

She said parents should be more discerning of the organizations that their children join.

“It is important for parents to know who are with their children, what they are thinking. That is why it is very important that we talk to our children so that we know their thoughts and feelings on different issues,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, De Guzman also cited that there are CTG elements that have already infiltrated the ranks in the government service.

With this, she said NICA and its partners are very active in the conduct of orientation for government executives on the infiltration of the bureaucracy.

She also warned state workers of the several ways by which CTGs can infiltrate the bureaucracy including fielding for the elections, affiliating with the employees’ unions of the agencies, or asking trusted cadres to apply in government offices. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
