Pampanga allots P10M for rehab of drug users

Pampanga Vice Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda disclosed on Tuesday that the provincial government is allotting P10 million for the rehabilitation of illegal drugs dependents.

Pineda bared this during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting attended by Gov. Lilia Pineda and majority of the mayors of the province.

Pineda said “the funds will not be enough” considering at least 9,258 drug users and peddlers surrendered to the police as of July 19.

Pampanga police director Sr. Supt. Rodolfo Recomono Jr. said 522 of those who surrendered were suspected drug pushers.

“It is a good start in our efforts to give a new and clean life to the victims of drugs,” said Pineda in the dialect.

It was estimated that drug users will need between P60,000 to P90,000 each to cover their treatment at rehabilitation centers.

The vice governor also stressed that he and hisbmother, the three-term governor, had been giving “all the necessary support and equipment” to police operations against illegal drugs “since day one.”

The governor is planning to invite Philippine National Police director General Ronald dela Rosa during the presentation of the close to 10,000 drug users and peddlers who voluntarily surrendered to the Pampanga police.

The Pineda administration is supporting the all-out the renewed campaign of the Duterte government against the illegal drugs trade.
