Grab Philippines and the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, (PNP-HPG) agreed to be partners in fighting street crimes, recently signing a Memorandum of Agreement that will facilitate collaboration between the two organizations on road safety and security.
“This agreement is about Grab’s continuing commitment to provide safe and secure transportation to our and passengers and partner drivers,” Grab Philippines Country Head Brian Cu said, as he signed the MOA.
“We are grateful to the HPG-PNP for this partnership that will not only enhance our partner drivers’ training on road safety and courtesy, but it also provides us the means to contribute substantially in the anti-criminality drive of the Government,” Cu added.
Chief Supt. Antonio N Gardiola Jr., Director of HPG-PNP, the other signatory to the Agreement, said they welcome Grab - Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing platform – as a partner in this road safety and security initiative.
“Grab provides significant service to the Filipino riding public through its technology and platform. And I believe that they are here to stay. We welcome them as a partner in this collaboration on road safety and security that can only be beneficial to our passengers,” Gardiola said.
Under the terms of the MOA, the HPG-PNP shall provide Grab drivers with training on Road Safety and Courtesy, as well as Anti-Carnapping and Anti-Highway Robbery, and relevant Ant-Criminality orientation seminars. It also includes provision of technical support in areas of anti-criminality, such as highway robbery, among others.
The MOA was signed for the HPG by its director, Chief Supt. Antonio N. Gardiola Jr., with Sr. Supt. Ulysses C. Caton, Deputy Director for Administration, and Sr. Supt. Marlon V. Madrid, Deputy Director for Operations. On the part of Grab, its Country Head, Brian Mathew Cu was joined by Leo Emmanuel Gonzales, Public Affairs Head, and Arnold Wayne Jacinto, Driver Services and Communities Head.
Under the terms of agreement, the collaboration shall be valid for 12 months. Cu said, however, Grab is looking forward to a long-term partnership with PNP-HPG on this commitment to proactively fight crime on the streets.
The signing ceremony was held at the Conference Room of the HPG Headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City. It was attended by the HPG’s 18 Regional Chiefs who were in Manila for a Command Conference. Several leaders of Grab Driver Groups also attended to witness the signing.
Also included in the Agreement is the holding of a Special Exhibition Basketball Game that aims to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the players composed of HPG personnel and Grab partner drivers.
