Paskuhan Village ownership issue far from over: Rep. Gonzales

Despite the signing of a Deed of Donation for the 5000-sq meter Paskuhan Village, the issue surrounding its ownership is far from over, said Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr.

The Deed of Donation on the controversial property between the City Government of San Fernando and Premier Central, Inc. (PCI) was recently signed.

PCI has agreed to give a 5,000-square meters’ portion of the Christmas-inspired village for the city government to utilize its cultural tradition of celebrating year-round Christmas and the establishment of amphitheater within the donated area.

Gonzales, who had been progressively and tirelessly running after the Paskuhan Village property, which he said rightly belongs to the people, had long been after the restoration of full ownership after the alleged void sale to PCI.

The representative also believes that Paskuhan Village is a cultural treasure which must be preserved to the coming generations so as to entrench on them Historical Kapampangan Culture. “Whatever agreement or compromise they have achieved now, all this are outcome of a diligent effort on our part to liberalize Paskuhan Village from illegal sale.

But then again the measly area of 5,000-square meter is just alms compared to what was deprived from the people of San Fernando,” Gonzales said. Gonzales said that the issue of the ownership is still pending before the proper court.

Gonzales filed an Urgent Motion for Leave of Court to Intervene and for its Reconsideration before the Regional Trial Court Branch 42, last year, regarding the brewing compromise agreement between the City Government of San Fernando and Premiere Central Inc. (PCI). “Part of the agreement is the PCI’s donation of 5,000 square meters of the Paskuhan Village plus a two-storey building and amphitheater, to be built free of cost for the city,” the CIO press release said.

But Gonzales was far from impressed. Gonzales said that 5,000 square meters is only a small fraction of the 9.3-hectare property.

No amount of compromise between the the City and the corporation could justify an alienation of a cultural treasure.

He added the Paskuhan Village is for the people of the province of Pampanga and represents a portion of the cultural identity of Filipinos. (PR)
