Camp Olivas, Pampanga – Police Regional Office 3 Regional Director PBGEN JOEL NAPOLEON M CORONEL reported that a total of 835 long and short firearms have been confiscated from individuals who violated the election gun ban.
He said that from the start of the election period on January 13 up to June 12, the Central Luzon police was able to seize 650 small arms (pistols and revolvers), 35 rifles, and 127 improvised or home-made guns called “sumpak”.
Also, a total of 5,374 deadly weapons and 31 firearm replicas were also confiscated.
Meanwhile, 626 gun ban violators were arrested and were subsequently filed with appropriate charges.
“We are still continuously conducting regular checkpoints even after the election period to ensure the maintenance of peace and security in the region. Time and again, I appeal to the public to cooperate with us during our conduct of checkpoint operations and, at the same time, I urged the public to immediately report any possible irregularities committed by our police personnel,” he added.
