Protests mark National Day of Indignation in Bataan

LIMAY, Bataan — The communities affected by a coal plant here launched a human chain protest and noise barrage, Friday morning, to symbolize their continued resistance to the operation of the coal plant calling for a clean and safe environment.

Derek Cabe of Coal Free Bataan Movement and Kilusan Para sa Pambansang Demokrasya said the noise barrage signified the indignation of the communities on the ground regarding the rejection of Sec. Gina Lopez and appointment of Roy Cimato as DENR chief.

“We believe that the present situation would further worsen the sufferings of the comunities as reforms would be disregarded and discontinued,” Cabe said.

The group said this is not the kind of change that they want and they are also calling on the government to fulfill their duty to protect and defend the welfare of the communities and environment first.

“Divest in coal , de-fund coal and end our sufferings,” Cabe added. — MHIKE R. CIGARAL
