BALANGA CITY — Three elementary pupils and a high school student recently received the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) award from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Region III as recognition for winning in various international math competitions last year.
Io Aristotle Nikolai Calica (Grade 2, Balanga Elementary School), Keith Railey Reyes (Grade 6, Dinalupihan Elementary School) and Ronniel Vincent Roberto (Grade 6, The Peninsula School in Limay) bagged medals in the 2016 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge held in Thailand last July 20-23.
Calica and Roberto brought home silver medal while Reyes received a bronze medal in their respective categories.
In another competition held in Singapore, Janna Patricia Tungol, an alumna of San Ramon Elementary School in Dinalupihan, won the bronze medal in 2016 International Mathematics Competition held from July 28 to August 1, 2016.
The awardees were recognized during the moving up ceremony in their respective schools.
YES is an institutional award of DOST through the Science Education Institute given to young students who has shown exemplary achievement in the field of science and mathematics. (CLJD/MJSD-PIA 3)
