PRRD administers 2,843 village chairs’ oathtaking

CLARK, Pampanga — President Rodrigo R. Duterte on Tuesday administered the the oath of office of the 2,843 newly elected Punong Barangays in Central Luzon.

Duterte, during his speech, vowed to fulfill his campaign promises, which is to stop corruption in government, clear this country from illegal drugs, peace talk with the enemies of the state particularly NPA and MILF.

The President said that his administration will continue his anti-drug campaign until the end of his term.

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año warned barangay officials to stop corruption involving barangay coffers and directed them to arrest those who are involved in illegal drugs in their respective barangays.

For his part, Assistant Secretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño urged newly elected punong barangays to create their Barangay Drug Abuse Council (BaDAC) in two months time right after their oathtaking of office on June 30, 2018.

“If after two months you failed to create your respective BADAC, we will file complaint against you,” Diño stressed.

He even urged barangay officials to focus in cleaning the community particularly sidewalks, river channels and waterways.

Prior to the oathtaking ceremony, the newly elected officials were given an orientation on the various campaigns of DILG against Illegal Drugs, Criminality, Violent Extremism, and Corruption. A briefing on the fundamentals of Federalism was also discussed to them.

Participting provinces during the oathtaking rites were Aurora with 151 punong barangays; Bataan 237; Bulacan 569; Nueva Ecija 849; Pampanga 505; Tarlac 511; Zambales 230; Angeles 33; and Olongapo City 17. Ninety two percent or 2,843 out of 3,100 punong barangays took their oath before President Duterte.
