‘Rogue’ Angeles cops get tongue-lashing from PNP chief

ANGELES CITY “..tang ina nagpulis kayo para magsindikato? Nagpulis kayo para mapahiya yung ating uniform?”

A fuming PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa lashed out at seven Angeles City cops belonging to the Angeles City Police Station 5. The seven cops were involved in the alleged robbery-extortion of three Korean tourists here identified as Min Hoon Park, Lee Ik Hun and Lee Jun Hyung.

The Koreans have identified the policemen as Police Officers 3 Arnold Nagayo, Roentjen Domingo, and Gomerson Evangelista; Police Officers 2 Richard King Agapito and Ruben Rodriguez; and Police Officers 1 Jayson Ibe and Mark Joseph Pineda.

Region 3 police director Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino said that Chief Inspector Wendel Arinas, commander of the Angeles City Police Office Station 5, and the deputy commander, Senior Inspector Rolando Yutuc were also relieved.

When asked by Dela Rosa why did he join the operation, one of the policemen replied “it was a legitimate operation.” A visibly irked Dela Rosa went ballistic anew saying: “Legitimate? Bakit ninyo pinera? Bakit niyo binugbog? Anong klaseng legitimate operation?

Nagpulis kayo para mapahiya ang ating uniform?,” Dela Rosa asked the seven Angeles City policemen in the presence of Angeles Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.

Indignant Koreans in Angeles City and other provinces in Central Luzon had sought police protection in the wake of unabated killing, abduction and extortion on their compatriots.

Ealier, the PNP chief cited similarities in the modus operandi of the Angeles-based policemen and the group of Senior Police Officer 3 Ricky Sta. Isabel, the principal suspect in the Jee Ik Joo kidnap-slay.

The alleged robbery-extortion involving the seven Angeles City cops happened on the evening of December 30, 2016 in Angeles City.

The Korean tourists said the police officers took their cash, bags, shoes, a gold ring and a speaker. They were also brought to the police station, where they were beaten by the police officers who demanded P300,000 in exchange for their liberty.

The policemen had also allegedly threatened to kill the Korean tourists if they failed to produce the amount.
