Some 5k bikers converge in Clark

CLARK FREEPORT— An unprecedented gathering of bikers from various cycling communities in the country took place in this Freeport over the weekend in a recent event which attempted to break the Guinness World Record title for the longest single line of bicycle parade.

During the event dubbed as “Trinx Creating History: A world record breaking event,” 4,999 bikers from several cycling groups in the country officially participated in A bid to break the record that stands at 1,186 bikers established in 2016 in Bangladesh.

While the attempt to break the record may have not been completed, however the event is considered as an unprecedented gathering of sports enthusiasts in Clark, which comprised peer groups, bike clubs, various organizations and even families.

Clark Development Corporation President-CEO Noel F. Manankil thanked all those who joined as he also noted the events objective to extend help for a charitable cause.

He also said that the Clark Picnic Grounds, where the event was staged, will be re-developed to make it more conducive to visitors, including bikers, joggers and health buffs especially during weekends and holidays.

The event started from the Picnic Grounds (near El Kabayo Stable) all the way to Clark-Mabalacat-Angeles-Road that approximately covered 12 kilometers long.

The event was organized by Trinx Bikes in partnership with Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Department of Tourism (DOT), CST Tires International, and National Bicycle Organization to unite the cycling industry in the country.

According to the organizers, Peter James Fairbairn, an adjudicator from Guinness World Record personally flew in the country to witness and judge the said event.

In a recent interview, Benedict Camara, one of the organizers of the event, said that different instructional activities for bikers were made as preparations to ensure the success of the event.

There are 235 bikers group from Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Bulacan, Zambales and Pampanga that joined the event on Sunday, including the Cupcake Bikers Group of actor Gardo Versoza.

“Registrations were first done with bike group leaders, and then we conducted seminars for the bike group leaders para malinaw sa kanila yung rules and regulations at ano ang kailangan gawin para mabreak yung record. Then from there yung mga bike group leaders kumuha sila ng mga best members nila to join the event. Tapos nagconduct kami ng series of practice events at nagpalabas din kami ng instructional videos and tutorials na pwedi nilang i-print. We also encouraged each cycling group to do their own practice” Camara said.

More than the mission of making it to the Guinness World Record, the event was also for a cause, encouraging each cycling group and participants to extend help and voluntarily donate to the chosen beneficiaries of the event which include Hospicio de San Jose.

Organizers said that the noted gaps, which should not be more than the length of a bicycle, between bikers may have caused the failure to establish the world record.
