(UPDATED as of 11:35 p.m., Sept. 15) The suspect behind the brutal deaths of a mother and her 10-year-old son in Barangay Gumi, Lubao town was nabbed at 1 p.m. Thursday in Floridablanca, Pampanga.
Police identified the suspect as Ronnel alias “Shaolin” Canilao, 21, married, also a resident of San Jose Gumi, Lubao.
Canilao, according to reports, is the son of Garcia’s househelper.
During interrogation, Canilao admittedly raped victim Jenny Pineda Garcia, a teacher, and later on killed her son Dwayne Josh, 10.
After killing the victims, he immediately took P10,000 in cash, two mobile phones, a tablet, and two watches from the victims’ home.
Police recovered a kitchen knife and two watches which he left at the Twin Peaks Motel in Sto. Tomas, Lubao, where he stayed after the crime.
Vice Governor Dennis Pineda and Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab immediately ordered a hot pursuit operation and later on offered a P150,000 reward for the possible identification of the suspect.
Canilao, after almost 24 hours, fell into the hands of police authorities led by Lubao chief of police Chief Insp. Michael Masangkay, after he was trailed in Floridablanca town where his family lives.
Masangkay said charges of rape, robbery, homicide and murder will be filed against Canilao, who is now detained at the Lubao Municipal Police Station.
