DUBAI – Suspected Visayas drug dealer Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa could be escorted back home by Philippines authorities in a month’s time to face charges.
That if Kerwin did not violate any laws while in the United Arab Emirates, according to Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio Vingno Jr.
Kerwin, son of Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. of Albuera town, Leyte, is detained at the Al Wathba jail in Abu Dhabi where he was being investigated by authorities whether he had business dealings in the United Arab Emirates.
The younger Espinosa may be set free after the probe, according to Ambassador Vingno.
Kerwin was set to surrender in early August to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa but had apparently gone into hiding.
“We were told that after completion of all the paper work, he could be released in a month’s time,” said Vingno. “That depends on whether or not he has committed any crime here.”
Authorities are now also probing who facilitated Kerwin’s travel to the UAE. The Dubai-based travel agency that facilitated Espinosa’s travel to the UAE, noted that Kerwin used a different name in his passport which is ‘Rolan Espinosa.’
Kerwin went to the UAE with his wife and three kids aged 4 and below.
Both Mayor Espinosa and his son allegedly operated a “family-owned” illegal drugs trade in central Philippines.
