Tarlac Agri U, sole PH state tertiary institution in THE Impact Rankings

CAMILING, Tarlac — Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) is the only state tertiary institution in the Philippines to make it in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

It was joined by four private institutions in the country namely Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas and Mapua University.

In an interview, TAU Director for External Linkages and International Affairs Christine Ferrer said THE Impact Rankings assesses the global performance of universities on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It uses indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

Ferrer disclosed that TAU gained ranks on 13 out the 17 SDGs with a 601-800 rating.

“We were highest on SDG 5 which is Gender Equality, second on SDG 4 which is Quality Education and third on SDG 1 which is No Poverty,” she noted.

THE 2021 Impact Rankings involved 1,115 universities which qualified from 94 countries or regions.

“Of the five universities in the Philippines, TAU is the only state university included in the ranking. This is another verification of the quality education TAU offers its students,” she added.

The milestone TAU achieved became possible through its good leadership and teamwork.

“The inclusion of TAU in this ranking methodology is a concerted effort of the University’s SDG Taskforce, with the guidance and encouragement of the Commission on Higher Education International Affairs Office,” Ferrer said.
