Violence in politics

The recent attacks against vice mayorables in Pampanga might change the good record of the province as being a peaceful area during the election period, especially so that a major politically related violence erupted shortly before the filing of certificates of candidacy come Oct 11.

This prompted police authorities in San Simon town to call for a peace covenant among feuding political groups in that town, according to Senior Supt. Nicanor Salvador, the top cop of Pampanga.

On Sept. 13, Migz Yambao narrowly escaped death when unidentified armed men armed with automatic assault rifles strafed his car in Barangay Concepcion, San Simon. Pampanga.

Yambao had just stepped out of his car when fired upon by armed men, apparently positioned adjacent to the vehicle of Yambao. Good thing all the car’s occupants had already alighted before the series of gunbursts took place.

Sources told deClassified files that Yambao and his companions were visiting residents in the community in preparation for his plan to run for vice mayor in the May midterm elections.

The victim’s vehicle, according to the police, was riddled with bullet holes, beyond repair.

On Oct 6, barely five days before the filing of certificates of candidacy set on Oct 11, Sasmuan first councilor Jesus “Boyet” Angeles was stabbed and shot by two unidentified suspects.

Angeles (Kambilan) is vying for the vice mayoralty seat in next year’s polls. He did not survive due to severe loss of blood.

The victim suffered eight stab wounds in different parts of his body, indicating how furious his attackers were that time. The suspects made sure that Angeles will not survive by shooting him in the head as a finishing touch.

Kambilan, a local political party being chaired by Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, quickly condemned the killing to the strongest terms, as he called on police aithorities to be vigilant against criminal groups to stop nonsense killings and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

How much more during election day or post elections?

With these incidents, surely Pampanga would be included in the list of areas of special concern during elections due to poll related violent incidents.
