More than 1,000 Chinese nabbed in Clark illegal gambling facility

More than 1,000 Chinese have been arrested in an illegal online gambling facility inside the Clark Freeport Zone on Thursday.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) authorities disarmed the security personnel of the illegal online gambling facility where all of the Chinese tourists had been working illegally. At least 20 rooms containing online computers are conducting the gambling facility.

The Chinese nationals have tried to escape by jumping from the 2nd floor of the gambling facility and by sneaking out of the windows. Some suffered fracture because of bad fall.

“Actually, we were surprised with the magnitude of the foreigners here (Clark). They will be properly charged and accordingly the Board of Commissioners will deliberate and issue a deportation order against them,” said Atty. Jose Carlitos Licas, Chief, BI-Fugitive Search Unit.

Licas said most of the Chinese nationals entered the country as tourists but are now working in the online gambling facility.

The raiding team confiscated the computers of the gambling facility. The government will immediately conduct deportation proceedings against the Chinese nationals.

The Chinese nationals were operating the illegal gambling facility without permit from the state-run Clark Development Corporation.

Last September, immigration operatives also arrested some 154 Chinese nationals involved in illegal online gambling inside the Clark Freeport. Eight of the arrested suspects were minors.

The Chinese nationals also entered the country as tourists and many of them have already overstayed their visa.
