404 corn farmers in NE receive fuel subsidy from DA

PALAYAN CITY — A total of 404 corn farmers in Nueva Ecija each received P3,000 worth of fuel discount card from Department of Agriculture (DA).

Under the Fuel Discount for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program, the agency aims to lessen the repercussions in the corn and fisheries industries caused by the oil price hike worldwide.

“Beneficiaries can use the discount card to purchase either gasoline or diesel only from the partner/accredited gasoline stations such as Petron, Shell, PTT, Jetti, Total, and Unioil,” Corn Banner Program Coordinator Adela Peñalba said.

Fuel discount cards are released in partnership with Development Bank of the Philippines and Universal Storefront Services Corporation.

Eligible corn farmers were identified based on the guidelines set by DA pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 7, series of 2022.

“To qualify for the subsidy, the farmer must be registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture, is included in the Farmers and Fisherfolk Registry System, and owns machinery with proof of ownership,” Peñalba explained.

About 2,255 corn farmers in Central Luzon are bound to benefit from the program.
