ARAYAT, PAMPANGA — Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda has ordered immediate emergency repairs and relief after a collapsing slope protection along Pampanga River in Barangay Candating endangered 26 houses and affected 387 families.
“Hindi ito maaaring ipagpaliban. Kailangan ng agarang pagkilos para maprotektahan ang mga tao at kanilang kabuhayan,” the governor stressed during her inspection on Tuesday, July 29.
Governor Pineda led the rapid response on the ground, personally distributing relief goods and deploying engineers to assess the structural damage.

The erosion, first reported in August 2024, has worsened due to recent heavy rains, causing cracks and minor landslides.
To stop further damage, the governor also directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to step in for urgent repairs and called for dredging parts of the river to prevent flooding.
“Kailangan na talagang baguhin ang approach natin. Dapat climate-resilient ang bawat proyekto. Kung kailangan i-redesign, gawin natin,” she said, echoing President Marcos’ call for climate-adaptive infrastructure.
