SANTA RITA BETS ON FRESH FACES, CULTURAL PRIDE TO END PAGEANT ‘CROWN DROUGHT’

SANTA RITA, Pampanga — After years of falling short on bigger stages, Santa Rita is retooling its approach to pageantry—banking on fresh faces, tighter competition mechanics, and a stronger cultural identity to reclaim its spot in the winners’ circle.

The town has launched Mutya at Ginoo ning Santa Rita 2026, its flagship pageant under the Piyestang Balen, with organizers promising a “modern yet rooted” showcase of Kapampangan talent.

Mayor Reynan S. Calo, who chairs this year’s fiesta committee, framed the stakes plainly: Santa Rita wants its crown back—this time, beyond municipal borders.

“We want to bring back the glory days of Santa Rita in the pageant world,” Calo said, pointing to the town’s intent to produce candidates who can compete—and win—at the provincial, regional, and national levels.

For this year, organizers say the changes go beyond aesthetics. The pageant introduces revamped mechanics, a restructured program flow, and tighter overall management—moves they say are meant to professionalize the competition.

Pageant head Andy Alviz said the shift is deliberate: less formula, more identity.

“We will have a modern pageant blended with tradition,” Alviz said.

That blend will be most visible onstage. Organizers are lining up all-Kapampangan musical scoring and tapping local designers to anchor the fashion segments—turning the pageant into a platform for cultural promotion as much as competition.

Municipal Administrator and Tourism Focal Person Earl Tongol said new rules have also been put in place to “level up” the pageant, with expectations of broader support from different sectors.

Ten barangays are fielding their official bets—one male and one female each—forming this year’s roster:

Each candidate is backed by their barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials, signaling a grassroots push behind the town’s pageant revival bid.

Preliminary events are set on April 24 at SM City San Fernando Downtown, where candidates will don local costumes and undergo closed-door interviews—a segment organizers say will weigh heavily on wit and substance.

Leading up to coronation night, candidates will also take part in outreach activities, brand visits, and rehearsals—exposures designed to prepare them for higher-level competitions.

The coronation is scheduled on May 19 at the Plaza Covered Court, where Santa Rita will crown its new Mutya and Ginoo—and, organizers hope, mark the beginning of a comeback.

Behind the scenes, the organizing committee is led by Municipal Treasurer Myla Capulong as co-chair, with Councilors Kim Cosme and Roy Galang heading the steering team.

For Santa Rita, the goal is clear: this year’s winners are not just titleholders—they are contenders being groomed for bigger stages. IORBITNEWS
