Tycoon to shell out P700M for drug rehab centers

Business tycoon Andrew Tan will shell out P700 million to build drug rehabilitation centers all over the country.

This was revealed by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) Chief Andrea “Didi” Domingo during her meeting with Pampanga-based mediamen at Midori Hotel and Casino at the Clark Freeport Zone.

Domingo said Tan’s gesture is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against illegal drug trafficking in the country.

Domingo said Tan is willing to give in advance his contribution amounting to P700 million for construction of drug rehab centers to treat drug users.

Domingo said she is also helping PNP Chief Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to meet entertainment managers in the metro for the foundation of the centers.

Earlier, Malacañang announced that 60,000 drug users and pushers have surrendered themselves to police authorities amid President Duterte’s call for a “bloody war” against drugs, criminality and corruption.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar said plans to build rehabilitation centers nationwide are being undertaken.

Andanar said that in Central Luzon, police authorities are eyeing Subic and Clark for the construction of drug rehabilitation centers to house drug dependents.

In Pampanga alone, more than 10,000 illegal drug users and pushers have surrendered and pledged to become productive members of the society.
