After bagging the Regional Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Awards making it a Hall of Famer, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is now eyeing the National Gawad Kalasag Award.
The recent Regional Gawad Kalasag Awards given by Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Central Luzon was held recently at Subic Freeport Zone.
According to PDRRMO head Angie Blanco, the provincial government has met the qualifications and requirements for the national nomination with its infrastructure, equipment, and partnership to non-government organizations, exemplary services and practices in risk reduction management and humanitarian assistance to gain the nomination.
She said one of the notable achievements made by the provincial government, recognized by the OCD, was the immediate help sent to the province of Nueva Ecija during the onslaught of typhoon “Lando”.
The said operation was led by Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda who brought military trucks, rescue boats and equipment and a response team.
“The vice-governor said that the provincial government will not cease on giving excellent services and saving lives even if we are awarded the hall of fame,” she said.
The Gawad Kalasag Award is conferred by the OCD to local DRRMCs that have implemented best practices and undertaken humanitarian assistance.
The PDRRMO is promoting disaster preparation and prevention to Kapampangans rather than disaster response by educating the village officials in the province.
